MOUNT BERRY, Ga. -- Junior
Ethan Saiki ran the fastest 5000m time in program history and a whopping 30 personal bests littered the results for Covenant track and field at the Berry Field Day Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
Saiki's time of 15:06.74 shattered the previous program record mark in the 5000m, as the junior finished third amongst all runners in the event.
For the other men's personal bests,
Cam Bain started things off with his 23.76 in the 200m, followed by
Connor Moffat's 53.26 in the 400m. In the 800m, Saiki (2:01.42),
Alex Burns (2:05.09),
Jacob Howington (2:06.75),
Anthony Davis (2:10.16),
Jack Dupree (2:10.87),
Grayson Lines (2:12.11), Moffat (2:12.12),
Aidan DeVries (2:13.87), and
Jack Woodham (2:23.69) all had bests.
Several also added personal records in the 5000m on the men's side, including DeVries (15:48.95), Burns (15:56.09),
Chandler Lines (16:12.64), Dupree (16:12.81),
Jack Miller (16:30.08),
Grayson Lines (17:15.61), and Davis (17:35.56).
For the women,
Lucie Demers starred in her two events, recording fourth overall in the 800m (2:19.25) and third in the 1500m (4:46.72), both of which were personal best times and not far from program-record setting times.
In the sprints,
Jaiden Henderson contributed a personal record time of 29.74 in the 200m, while several had personal bests in the 800m and 1500m. In the 800m, alongside Demers,
Evangelia Berry (2:20.42),
Sophia Velleco (2:27.35),
Kenzi Stapleton (2:28.24),
Claire Mellott (2:36.10), and
Rachel Bowles (2:44.77) set new benchmarks for themselves.
Stapleton would notch another personal best in the 1500m as well with her time of 5:03.77, while Mellott added a second of her own in the 5000m (20:38.76). Finally,
Elie Berndt's long jump of 4.57m (15' 0") was enough to be a new best for the sophomore.
