Baseball Earns ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) announced that Covenant Baseball earned the Team Academic Excellence Award.

This honor awards high school and college baseball teams coached by ABCA members that post a GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

Berea and Piedmont were the other two schools in the CCS to be recognized by the ABCA.

The Scots are coming off a 16-18 season with a 7-9 CCS record. Covenant saved its best baseball for one of its biggest games as it knocked out No. 2 seeded LaGrange in the conference tournament with a 2-0 win.

The American Baseball Coaches Association has a long tradition of recognizing the achievements of baseball coaches and student-athletes. The ABCA/Rawlings All-America Teams are the nation's oldest, founded in 1949, and the ABCA's awards program also includes the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Awards, the ABCA/ATEC Regional & National Coaches of the Year and several other major awards such as the ABCA Hall of Fame and Dave Keilitz Ethics in Coaching Award.
