Season in Review: Baseball

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - Covenant Baseball ended the 2023 season with an overall record of 16-18 and a conference record of 7-9. Some of the memorable moments and achievements are mentioned below.

The team finished the season strong, winning eight out of their last 13 games. Their perfect 4-0 performance in the final week of the regular season propelled them into the post-season tournament hosted by LaGrange and the Collegiate Conference of the South.

Before heading to LaGrange, Georgia to face the conference's top seeds, the Scots secured a significant milestone. They earned a sweep against Berea, marking Head Coach Doug Simons' 300th career win, a remarkable achievement.

Following the conclusion of the regular season, the seedings were determined, and the All-Conference selections were announced. Covenant Baseball surpassed Maryville and Berea, securing the fifth spot in the conference standings.

Harrison Adelgren, the team's starting catcher, was recognized as Second Team All-Conference. Adelgren had an impressive batting average of .302, ranking fourth on the team.

In the first game of the Championship Tournament, the Scots faced off against the second-seeded Belhaven. It was a closely contested match, but Covenant fell short with a narrow 2-1 loss. As a result, they were sent to the elimination bracket.

Facing the host team and top-seeded LaGrange in the elimination round, the Scots displayed exceptional pitching from Scotty Smith and Zach Tolleson. Their efforts led the team to an impressive victory, knocking out the Panthers and advancing in the tournament.

However, the Scots' journey came to an end on Saturday, May 6, when they faced the Huntingdon Hawks. Although they fought hard, it was not enough to secure a victory.
