DANVILLE, Ky. -- Covenant women's tennis was upended in their regular season finale by Asbury, 5-2, in Danville on Friday.
After falling in the first two doubles matches to go down 1-0 overall,
Katie Cummings and
Christina English did save face with a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles over Clark and Sanchez.
In singles, the Eagles' Nova Maldonado was able to beat
Maisie Tanchanpongs, 6-2, 7-6, to put Asbury ahead 2-0, and then Zegarra followed suit with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over
Estee Verdery at No. 2 to make it a commanding 3-0 lead.
Landry McKinney could not stop the bleeding, as Garcia Gasca won the match for Asbury with a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 3, and Watkins added on with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Cummings at No. 4.
In the back of the lineup though, English was able to get the Scots on the board with a grueling 5-7, 6-4, 12-10 tiebreak win, and
Ora Hall dominated at No. 6, winning 6-0, 6-2 over Mansfield to make the final 5-2.
UP NEXT
Covenant will be the four seed in the CCS Tournament and will match up with Huntingdon on Thursday at 10 a.m.
