MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- Covenant women's tennis got clinching wins from the back of the lineup to advance to the CCS semifinals with a 4-2 win over Huntingdon on Thursday morning in Murfreesboro.
The Scots return to the CCS semifinals for the second time in the last three seasons.
Maisie Tanchanpongs and
Estee Verdery got off on the right foot early in this one, sweeping Brown and Crow of Huntingdon 6-0 at No. 1 doubles. However, the Hawks rallied to take both No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to go up 1-0.
Singles play was a different ballgame.
Ora Hall evened matters on the scoreboard with her 6-0, 6-2Â win over Angelina Mazza at No. 6, and
Christina English was not too far behind with her 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 5 to put the Scots ahead 2-1.
At No. 2, Dalyce Sanders knotted things up at two with her 6-1, 6-1 victory over Verdery, but Tanchanpongs put Covenant one point away with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 1.
Katie Cummings did the rest, winning 6-3, 4-3 to give the Scots the quarterfinal win.
