MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- Covenant women's tennis' season came to an end on Friday with a loss to No. 1 seed Piedmont, 4-0, in the CCS semifinals on Friday in Murfreesboro.
The Scots conclude the season 9-12 overall, and made their second CCS semifinal in three seasons, thanks to the strong play of the young talent, particularly
Maisie Tanchanpongs, who was named the CCS Rookie of the Year and All-CCS First Team for her stellar campaign.
The Lions proved too much early in doubles play, asTanchanpongs and
Estee Verdery fell 6-1 to Stallworth and Canaday at No. 1, and then Bolch and Row upended
Katie Cummings and
Christina English 6-0 at No. 3 to clinch the doubles point.
In singles, Cummings dropped her match at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-1, to Hattie Sloyan, and English likewise fell 6-3, 6-1 to Olivia Carpenter at No. 5, putting the Scots down 3-0.
Tanchanpongs,
Landry McKinney, and
Ora Hall began to rally for comebacks in their matches to attempt to keep hope alive, but Ella Kate Canaday clinched the match for Piedmont at No. 2 singles with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Verdery.
