LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - Covenant took on Berry in a non-conference matchup at the Covenant Tennis Complex on Tuesday. The Scots battled but were unable to overcome the firepower from the Vikings as they fell 6-1.
Covenant's lone win of the day came from Maisie Tanchanpongs as she picked up a win in the one slot. The freshman beat Sara Mejia in a marathon match by a score of 6-7(3), 7-6(5), 10-8.
Berry put the pressure on early in the match as Mejia and Carolina Hanson quickly knocked off Tanchanpongs and Estee Verdery 6-1. The Vikings were also able to come through at number two doubles as Paige Evans and Maggie Cox beat Katie Cummings and Christina English, 6-3, to clinch the doubles point.
The Vikings later completed the doubles sweep as Anna Oliver and Charlee Eidson defeated Landry McKinney and Kruesi Graham, 6-3.
Berry continued their momentum into singles as Eidson beat English 6-0, 6-2 in the five slot to give them a 2-0 lead. They extended the lead as Hanson knocked off Verdery 6-2, 6-1 in the number two position. The clincher came from Evans as she beat Cummings 6-2, 6-1 in the four slot to give Berry the decisive 4-0 lead.
Berry continued to establish dominance as they picked up another win from Cox in the three position as she beat McKinney 6-0, 6-4. Graham put up a good fight in the six slot but was ultimately beaten by Kylee Craig 7-5, 6-0.
