LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - Covenant took on MUW in a non-conference matchup at the Covenant Tennis Complex on Saturday. The Scots took the doubles point and didn't look back as they completed a 7-0 sweep of the visiting Owls.
Doubles started out very evenly contested as both Covenant and MUW got a 6-0 win. The freshman duo of Landry McKinney and Kruesi Graham was able to beat Harley Lowry and Emma Horton at number three, while Austin Mays and Bailey Flynn beat Katie Cummings and Christina English at number two.
The doubles point came down to the number one court, where Maisie Tanchanpongs and Estee Verdery were able to grab a tight 6-4 victory over Kayleigh Griffin and Alaina Mathis to give Covenant a 1-0 lead.
Covenant carried the momentum into singles as Tanchanpongs was able to beat Hays 6-1, 7-5 at number one. Verdery followed suit as she beat Griffin 6-1, 6-4 in the two slot.
McKinney was able to win comfortably as she took down Mathis 6-1, 6-1 at number three. At this point the match was well in hand, as Covenant led 4-0 with only three matches left.
Cummings and English kept the Scots rolling as they both bounced back from their doubles match to earn wins for Covenant. Cummings beat Flynn 6-3, 6-2, while English defeated Lowry 6-4, 6-2. Graham rounded out the lineup at number six as she picked up her first collegiate singles win, 6-4, 6-1 over Horton.
