ANDERSON, S.C. - Men's Golf captured the title at the Bob Jones Bruins Classic at Cobb's Glen Country Club with a 36-hole score of (+23). On the leaderboard, Covenant had four players finish inside the top-10.Â
The team win is Covenant's first since March of 2023 when it won the Chattahoochee Collegiate.Â
The Scots led from start to finish as they opened with a team score of 295 (+7) to go into the final round with a three-shot lead. In the final round, Covenant fired a 304 (+16) which was good enough to edge out Johnson and Wales by six shots for first place on the leaderboardÂ
INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCES:
Freshman Cole Godwin led the way for the Scots with a score of (+5) to finish tied-third place in his second college tournament. In the opening round, he shot a round of even-par, 72. The Austin, Texas native played his last five holes in round one at four-under par, which included an eagle at the par-five 15th. In round two, Godwin shot 77 (+5) to secure his top-three finish.Â
Another freshman playing in his second college tournament, Carson Pruitt, finished tied-sixth for Covenant with a score of (+7). He shot rounds of 75 (+3) and 76 (+4) for the Scots, making two birdies in both rounds.Â
Drew Silman also finished tied-sixth for Covenant at (+7), adding another impressive performance to his résumé. The junior was in second place after a day-one round of 72 (E), however a second-round score of 79 (+7) dropped him back a few spots on the leaderboard.Â
Finishing tied-eighth to round out Covenant's finishers inside the top-10 was Wiley Hickerson at (+8). Hickerson was consistent in both rounds, shooting consecutive scores of 76 (+4). The tied-eighth finish is his best since the spring of 2023.Â
Rounding out the Covenant lineup was Will Sporalsky with a tied-14th finish and a score of (+12). The freshman opened with a disappointing 81 (+9), before bouncing back with a second-round score of 75 (+3) to lead all Covenant players.Â
Garrett Humbert and Ayden Cordell each competed as individuals for the Scots. Humbert, playing in his first college tournament, placed 17th on the leaderboard with rounds of 78 (+6) and 80 (+8). Cordell posted back-to-back rounds of 82 (+10) to finish tied-24th.Â
UP NEXT: Covenant competes in the West Pines Collegiate in Douglasville, Georgia on October 6th-7th.Â
