Men's Golf Breaks Record; Finishes Third in Rome

ROME, Ga. - The Scots played in the Chick-Fil-A Invitational at Stonebridge Golf Club over Fall Break and showcased themselves as one of the top teams in the conference, placing third with a team score of (+19) against a competitive field of 19 teams.

In the second round of the 54-hole event, Covenant broke the school record for lowest team round, shooting 283 (-5). It's the second time this fall the Scots have shattered this record. In Covenant's other two rounds it shot 299 (+11) and 301 (+13) to secure its third-place result.

INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCES:

Drew Silman secured his best result of the fall, placing third on the leaderboard with a score of (-1) behind a tournament-high 15 birdies. He opened with consecutive rounds of 70 (-2), putting him just one shot off the lead heading into Tuesday. The junior closed with 75 (+3), which still was good enough to earn him third place. The result marks two years in a row that he has secured a podium finish at this event after finishing second in 2024.

Freshman Carson Pruitt played his best tournament as a Scot, finishing tied fourth at (+1). Pruitt posted rounds of 72 (E) and 70 (-2) in rounds one and two, putting himself in red figures going into Tuesday. In the final round, Pruitt closed with 75 (+3), but jumped up two spots on the leaderboard.

The next player on the leaderboard for Covenant was another freshman, Will Sporalsky, in a tie for 24th at (+9). He shot rounds of 77 (+5) in the first and final rounds with a college-low round of 71 (-1) mixed in between, helping the Scots break the school record for lowest team round.

Finishing in a tie for 52nd at (+15) was Cole Godwin. The Austin, Texas native had a rough start, shooting 83 (+11) in round one. However, the freshman bounced back with rounds of 72 (E) and 76 (+4) to surge up the leaderboard.

The other Covenant golfer who competed this week was Wiley Hickerson, finishing tied 75th at (+22). The senior shot 80 (+8) and 83 (+11) in the first two rounds, but saved his best game for the final round, shooting 75 (+3), to earn a counting score for the Scots.

UP NEXT: Covenant's "B Team" competes in the Belhaven Invitational October 27-28 at The Refuge Golf Course.
