JACKSON, Miss. -- Covenant track and field men and women both placed third at the CCS Championships in Jackson, with
Ethan Saiki and
Evangelia Berry earning individual honors for their stellar performances across their events.
The men scored 108 points, while the women dropped 119.
Saiki, a junior from Bakersfield, Calif., was given both the CCS Male Athlete of the Meet and the CCS Male Track Athlete of the Meet after his first-place finishes in the 1500m, 5k, and 10k, including dominant showings in the 5k (16:29.34) and 10k (33:15.13).
Berry, a junior from Morgantown, W.Va., likewise lapped the field, sometimes multiple times, in her distance events, gaining individual titles in the 5k (18:50.66) and 10k (39:57.77), therefore justifying her selection as the Female Track Athlete of the Meet.
Multiple other Scots runners landed on the podium as well. On the men's side,
Chandler Lines placed second in the 800m with his 1:58.25 and second in the 1500m (4:09.08).
Alex Burns picked up a pair of medals himself, one in the 5k (16:42.78 - third), and one in personal best time in the 10k (34:16.29 - second), with his 5k comeback effort essential to the Scots placing third.
Aidan DeVries also medaled twice in the distance events, running a 16:42.05 in the 5k to get silver and a personal-best 34:16.64 in the 10k to get bronze.
Christian Mortimer rounded out the medalists with a program-record final javelin toss of 53.32m (174' 11"), earning him the individual conference title in those events.
For the female medalists,
Lucie Demers had a pair of silvers, one in the 800m (2:21.18) and a fantastic program record time of 4:44.84, breaking Lilly Smith's longstanding record in that event.
Sarah Vannoy added medals in the 1500m (4:50.97 - third), 5k (19:35.89 - second) and 10k (41:04.90 - third).
In terms of personal bests, for the women,
Claire Mellott ran a 44:17.79 in the 10k to set a personal record, while both
Elie Berndt (23.57m - 77' 4") and
Arielle Eklund (22.09m - 72' 5") set personal bests in the javelin. Berndt added two more in her other field events, going for a 4.66m (15' 3.5") in the long jump and a 9.82m (32' 2.75") in the triple jump.Â
Josephine Swinburnson also had a personal best in the long jump (4.69m - 15' 4.75") to round out the women's PRs.Â
On the men's side,
Connor Moffat landed a personal best in the 400m prelims (52.27), while
Grayson Lines (4:29.71) and
Anthony Davis (4:35.81) had a pair in the 1500m.
Codey Parrish recorded the final men's PR in the shot put with a 12.36m (40' 6.75").
