LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - Covenant Softball Head Coach Bill Higley has announced Rebecca Serfass as his new Assistant Coach.Â
"I'm excited to add Rebecca to our Covenant Softball Coaching Staff. She brings a love for the game and a desire to use softball to help other young ladies grow as people, players, and in their relationships to Christ," Higley said. "Her love for the Lord and desire to use softball as an avenue to disciple others will be evident to all. Moreover, Rebecca is an accomplished softball player, and her skills and knowledge of the game will be an asset to our team."
Serfass joins the Softball Coaching Staff after a successful playing career under Coach Higley at Clarks Summit in Pennsylvania. She was a three-year captain for the Defenders and earned a B.S. in Education (PreK-12 Health and Physical Education).
"I am excited to join the softball program here at Covenant and can't wait to serve the Lord through serving our student-athletes. I want to thank Coach Higley and Director of Athletics, John Hirte, for this great opportunity," Serfass said. "I have seen firsthand how Coach Higley makes a positive impact, having played under his leadership before, and am eager to learn from him. I can't wait to get started on our season and I pray that we honor God through our endeavors".
In her four-year playing career at Clarks Summit, Serfass accumulated over 100 career hits while posting a career batting average of .333. The native of Lehighton, Pennsylvania also tallied nine home runs in her career. At the conclusion of the 2022 and 2023 season, Serfass was named All-CSAC Honorable Mention.Â
During her senior year at Clarks Summit, Serfass was a key player on a team that went 20-17-1, as the Defenders won their most games in a single season since 2012.
Outside of the diamond, Serfass was the Lead Teacher of School-Age Before and After School/Summer Program. In this role she created a summer-long educational program and executed daily lesson plans.Â
Serfass was also a Prek-6 Grade P.E. Teacher for a semester at Abington Christian Academy and a Teacher's Assistant at Clarks Summit in Health and Fitness classes.Â
Covenant Softball begins its first season under the guidance of Higley and Serfass in just over a month at the MUW Invitational on Feb. 14-15 where it will play four games in two days.Â
