Theunissen Earns Academic All-American Status

AUSTIN, Texas - The College Sports Communicators, formerly known as CoSIDA, revealed their 2024 Academic All-America Teams for Men's Soccer on Tuesday afternoon with Kade Theunissen named to the First Team for NCAA Division III.

Academic All-American is a title reserved for college student-athletes who perform at an elite level in their chosen sport and in the classroom. The all-time list of 42,000+ Academic All-Americans includes major sports stars and some of the world's most accomplished individuals in medicine, business, science and the arts. Established in 1952 and selected by College Sports Communicators, Academic All-America is the longest running and premier award for athletic and academic success across championship college sports at all NCAA levels, the NAIA, two-year colleges and Canadian institutions.

Theunissen becomes the third Covenant Men's Soccer player in school history to be named an Academic All-American and the first since Paul Lemay in 2019. He is the 33rd player in Covenant history to earn All-American status from any organization.

"I'm extremely proud of Kade for his accomplishments on and off the field," said Men's Soccer Head Coach Scott Bosgraf. "Kade has dedicated himself to the work it takes to thrive on the field, being a two time CCS Offensive Player of the Year as well as a two time All-Region Player, and in the classroom with this superb accomplishment of being named a First Team Academic All-American. Congratulations Kade!"

A senior from Lafayette, Louisiana, Theunissen is an Economics major where he holds an impressive 3.91 GPA. He holds the highest GPA among the four forwards selected on the First Team.

On the pitch, Theunissen had a record-breaking season as Covenant went 12-3-3 and won the CCS Regular Season Championship. He totaled 14 assists this season which is a new school record. He also scored nine goals, including two game-winning goals one of which came in the 87th minute on Homecoming against Emory.

To go along with his new All-American status, Theunissen also was named Second Team United Soccer Coaches All-Region, CCS Offensive Player of the Year, and First Team All-CCS this season.

Theunissen graduates at the end of the school year and hopes to pursue professional soccer. He alongside the rest of his senior teammates won three CCS Tournament Championships and Two CCS Regular Season Championships during their time at Covenant.
