HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- Covenant men's soccer got a golden goal from
Jackson Bostrom, off an assist from
Henry Parker, to advance to the CCS Championship with a 2-1 overtime win over Huntingdon in Friday's semifinal match in Huntsville.
Bostrom and Parker did all the scoring for the Scots (6-8-2) in this one, while keeper
J.T. Tolson saved one shot and
Eli Daniel,
Noah Jones,
Sean Freace,
Carter Weekley, and
Daniel Wallis played all 92:25 of the match.
Jackson Hinson got the match started for the Scots with his shot on frame in the seventh minute, but Trent Wineberg made the save to hold the match scoreless for the moment.
That moment would last until the 33rd minute, when a foul by the Hawks (1-8-9) inside the box handed Parker a penalty kick chance, which he converted to put Covenant up 1-0.
Tyler Johnson looked to add to the lead in the 36th minute, but Wineberg stopped that shot to hold the score at 1-0 at the break.
In the second half, Wineberg stopped two more Covenant attacks, while Tolson held in the 69th minute to keep the 1-0 lead. However, in the 88th minute, Jordan Bryant found a lane and scored to tie it at one with just 2:55 to go. Neither team was able to get a shot away as the clock expired, forcing extra time.
In extra time, it was Parker who created the chance again, as his corner found Bostrom, who headed it home just 2:25 into extra time to put the Scots in the CCS Championship match for the fifth time.
Wineberg made five saves in total for Huntingdon.
