LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - In year two of Kara Leleux being the head coach at Covenant, the Scots Softball team finished 16-20 with an 8-8 CCS record.
Covenant began its season strong with three wins at the MUW Invitational in Jackson, Mississippi, and ended the regular season on a high note with three consecutive CCS doubleheader sweeps of Wesleyan, Berea, and Agnes Scott.
In the wins over Berea, Covenant scored season-highs in runs with 18 in game one and 21 in game two.
Upon the conclusion of the regular season, the Scots placed fifth in the CCS standings with the postseason lurking. In the CCS tournament, Covenant went 1-2, with the win being an 11-0 shutout of Wesleyan.Â
Outfielder Vanessa Davis was named NFCA Second Team All-Region after posting a team-high .407 batting average. The senior was also First Team All-Conference and surpassed the 100 career hits milestone this year.
Making the cut for Second Team All-Conference was outfielder Taylor Murdock, who led the Scots with 38 hits on the season. She had the second-highest batting average for the Scots at .352.
Leading the pitching staff this year for Covenant was Jenna Yeary with 110 innings pitched and a 4.84 ERA. Yeary threw 13 complete games for the Scots in her first year on Lookout Mountain. Pitcher Jennifer Coates was recognized by the CCS as a member of the All-Sportsmanship Team.
Moving into next season, the Scots have a big core of returning players led by Murdock and fellow outfielder Alexa Gonzalez, who batted .336 in 2023. The future looks bright for Scots Softball.
