CLEVELAND, Tenn. -- Covenant track and field's
Ben Mellott and
Micaiah Allison capped their seasons, and careers, with program records at the Lee University Last Chance meet on Saturday night in Cleveland.
Mellott broke his own 5,000-meter record and placed 43rd overall in the stacked event, while Allison bested his program record and finished 27th in the 3,000-meter steeple.
Mellott came in with a time of 15:18.09 to top his previous program record by over four seconds. The junior paced well throughout the race and then finished with his best lap time of the run at 1:11 on the final lap.
It marked the second straight year that Mellott posted a program-record time at a last chance meet after he accomplished the feat at Montreat last May. Mellott is planning to attend Georgia Tech in the fall to complete his engineering degree.
Allison also broke his own program record in the 3,000-meter steeple. A hallmark event for the senior throughout his career, Allison came in 27th overall with a time of 9:50.91 to break the record by five seconds.
Allison ends his career as a Scot will all of the top-five marks in the steeple in program history.
Mellott and Allison were both All-USA South honorees during the year.
