BEREA, Ky. --
S.K. Lipperd won twice,
Seth Bergeron also took an event win, and the Covenant track and field teams wrapped up the USA South Championships with strong showings on Thursday at Berea.
The women placed third in the meet with 95, while the men were seventh with 50 points.
Lipperd took two event wins as she earned three All-USA South honors on the day. Lipperd won the 1500-meter event with a time of 4:57.46 to open the day and then won the 800-meter with a time of 2:20.60. Lipperd's 800 time was a USA South meet record.
The senior then capped the day as part of the 4x400 relay team that took second. The quartet of Lipperd,
Elysse Carrillo,
Daehla Smith, and
Anna Baker finished in a season-best time of 4:15.30. Lipperd's three All-USA South honors gave her six in her career on the track.
Covenant collected 13 All-USA South selections overall in the meet.
Bergeron was also a winner on the men's side. The freshman took first in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:06.03 to earn his first career All-USA South accolade. Later in the day, Bergeron was part of a 4x400 team -- along with
Josh Leak,
RJ Bascom, and
Noah Norman -- that set a program record with a time of 3:28.42 to finish second in the event and take All-USA South honors.
Carrillo picked up a pair of All-USA South honors on the women's side. She finished second in the 400-meter event with a time of 1:00.72 before earning All-USA South again on the 4x400 team. Carrillo also set a program record in the 200-meter for a second straight day as she came in sixth at 26.59.
In the men's 5,000-meter run,
Ben Mellott placed third to earn All-USA South accolades with a season-best time of 15:24.09. The Scots had four runners finish in the top-10 in that event as
Benjamin Jones was sixth (15:50.79),
Josiah Mellott ninth (16:00.88), and
Micaiah Allison 10th (16:05.89).
Covenant had several other top-10 performances on the women's side. Baker finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles at 18.03, just .02 off her own program record, and later finished fifth in the 400-meter hurdles at 1:13.51.
Emma Christensen was fifth in the 100-meter dash and was part of the 4x100 team -- with Smith, Carrillo, and Baker -- that placed sixth at 53.61. Finishing 11th,
Maddie Mitchell set a program record in the shot put at 9.93 meters.
On the men's side, Bascom placed fourth in the 110-meter hurdles at 17.72 to set a program record. Norman was fourth in the 400-meter event at 51.35, while Norman joined
Antwaun Powell,
Santos Cruz, and Leak on the 4x100 team that finished seventh at 46.35.
Will Holland and
Daehla Smith were the Scots' representatives on the USA South All-Sportsmanship teams in their respective sports.
