CENTRAL, S.C. --
Ben Mellott and
S.K. Lipperd both took event wins as the Covenant track and field teams competed at Southern Wesleyan's Gotta Run Invite, which concluded on Saturday.
The Covenant teams also set two program records and a host of personal bests in the two-day meet.
Mellott took first in Friday's 5,000-meter event with a season-best time of 15:33.98, the fourth-fastest time in program history. Mellott has competed in two 5,000-meter events during the outdoor season and has top-10 finishes in both.
On Saturday, it was Lipperd's turn to take medalist honors. The senior set a personal record and won the 1500-meter run with her time of 4:49.49. It was Lipperd's second win in the distance this season, and fourth overall.
The women's 4x100 team of
Daehla Smith,
Elysse Carrillo,
Anna Baker, and
Emma Christensen topped the program record with their time of 53.24 as the team took sixth in the event. It was the first 4x100 of the year for the Scots and they bested a mark that stood for four years.
The other program record that was set came in the men's 100-meter hurdles as
RJ Bascom came in with a program-best time of 18.86.
Christensen tied her own program record in the high jump with a mark of 1.50 meters which placed her seventh overall. The women's 4x400 team of Carrillo, Smith,
Jenna Sandhoff, and Lipperd finished in 4:16.79 -- the second-best program mark -- to place ninth. Carrillo also ran a strong 27.36 in the 200-meter event.
On Friday, the women had a pair of top-10 finishes.
Sarah Holler placed fifth in the pole vault at 2.75 meters and
Mattie Parker was eighth in the 3,000-meter steeple at 12:23.19.
Lydia Moore set a personal record in the 5,000-meter at 21:56.73.
The men also had a pair of top-10 finishes on Friday. To go along with Mellott's first place run in the 5,000-meter,
Seth Bergeron had a personal-best time in the 800-meter at 1:59.36 as he finished sixth.
On Saturday,
Josiah Mellott posted his personal-best time in the 1500-meter at 4:07.75 to place eighth, while
Benjamin Jones also had a personal record time in the event at 4:07.79 to finish 10th.
Noah Norman ran his best time in the 200-meter at 23.02 to place 15th overall.
The men's 4x400 team of
Josh Leak, Bergeron, Bascom, and Norman posted a season-best time of 3:31.04 to finish eighth.
