MOUNT BERRY, Ga. -- The outdoor season opened on Saturday for the Covenant track and field programs at the annual Victor Icebreaker Duals, hosted by Berry College at Valhalla Stadium. The men's team placed eighth, while the women were 10th among scoring teams.
The women's team broke five program records in the meet and tallied one first-place finish as the Scots tallied 29 points.
S.K. Lipperd and
Elysse Carrillo had strong performances in their events. Lipperd took home the 800-meter title with a time of 2:22.06, marking her third straight win in the event between indoor and outdoor seasons. Carrillo broke her own program record in the 400-meter event with a time of 1:01.03 to place third overall.Â
Lipperd and Carrillo were also part of the 4x400 team, along with
Maggie Henry and
Anna Baker, that placed sixth at 4:20.28.
Baker also bested her own program record in the 400-meter hurdles as she finished fifth overall with a time of 1:14.94.
Jae Woods set three program records in field events. The freshman placed ninth in the javelin with a program-record mark of 28.60 meters. In discus, she topped out at 31.94 meters and had a top distance of 9.26 meters in the shot put, both program records.Â
In other field events,
Sarah Holler finished 11th in the pole vault at 2.77 meters and
Emma Christensen was eighth in the high jump at 1.37 meters. Both became the first Covenant female athletes to compete in those outdoor events.
Daehla Smith set a personal record in the 200-meter at 29.54.
The men compiled four top-10 finishes on the day led byÂ
Micaiah Allison's second-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeple with a time of 10:23.25.
Noah Norman posted a 400-meter time of 51.35 to place sixth, while
Seth Bergeron was ninth in the 800-meter with a mark of 2:01.09.
Bergeron and Norman joined
Josh Leak and
Nate Moore on the 4x400 team that placed fifth with a time of 3:31.78.
Ben Mellott was 12th in the 1500-meter event with his time of 4:12.81 and also placed 17th in the 800-meter at 2:04.96.Â
