LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Goals by Ruth Terry and Kara Lee, just minutes apart, late in the second half lifted the Covenant Lady Scots past GSAC foe Spelman College 2-0 on a chilly Wednesday evening at Scotland Yard.
The victory for Covenant gives them double digits in the win-column as they move to 10-2-1 and remain unblemished in conference play at 5-0. Spelman falls to 5-6 and 2-3 in league action.
After a scoreless 83 minutes of play, Covenant finally broke through in the 84th minute. Terry received a pass from teammate Rachel Bernard and laced a shot just past Spelman keeper Kenya McQueen for her third score of the year giving the Lady Scots a 1-0 edge.
Less than two minutes later, Kara Lee found the back of the net from short distance off a slight deflection from the keeper to make it 2-0. The goal for the senior from Blaine, Tenn., was her first of the season.
Even though the match went scoreless until the final six minutes, Covenant maintained possession the majority of the time. The Lady Scots outshot Spelman 23-2, with a 9-1 advantage in shots on goal. McQueen managed to save seven shots for the visitors as she did her part to keep Spelman in the match.
Jenna Vreeland had three shots on goal with Terry adding two of her own. Bernard, Katelyn Newsome, and Mo Cross each added one. Keepers Hannah Bales and Lucy Johnson split time in front of the net, with Bales tallying one save, for Covenant.
Jasmin Molin took Spelman's lone shot on goal in the 26th minute.
Covenant is back in action on Saturday when they travel Montgomery, Ala., to take on Huntingdon College in a GSAC bout. Match time is 4:00 p.m.
