ATLANTA, Ga. -- Covenant track and field runners
Sophia Velleco and
Lucie Demers were named the CCS Track Athlete of the Week and Track Rookie of the Week, respectively, announced the conference on Tuesday.
The awards are the first of the season for each athlete.
Velleco, a sophomore from Stafford, Va., earned first-place finishes in the 200m and 400m sprints at the Mountainside Stride event on Friday, running a 27.78 and 1:03.22, with the 27.78 being a personal best. She ranks third amongst all CCS runners in the 400m.Â
Demers, a freshman from Rogers, Ark., finished first in both the 800m and 1500m events in Mountainside Stride with times of 2:29.75 and 4:56.03, respectively, and currently ranks second in the conference in both events.
Velleco, Demers, and the Scots head to Berry Field Day next Friday and Saturday before preparing for the conference meet on April 21 and 22.
