DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. -- Covenant golf used a stellar first two rounds and powered through a tough third round to post a 54-hole program record of 873 (+29) at the West Pines Collegiate on Tuesday.
That score of 873 broke the previous program record by seven shots, and continues the ascent that coach
Eddie Jackson and the team have been building towards over the last few seasons.
Senior
Drew Silman led the way, finishing tied for 15th with his even, 213, carding 14 birdies, tied for the second-most by any individual at the event. The 213 is the second-best 54-hole individual score in program history, as Silman now owns the top four marks in Covenant lore.
Behind Silman was freshman
Calvin Johnson, who posted a 7-over, 220 with seven birdies to tie for 48th individually. That score ties Johnson for 10th in program history for a 54-hole tournament.
Rounding out the team were freshmen
Oliver Bean and
Coleman Fleury, along with sophomore
Cole Godwin, who each had 11-over, 224s, with Godwin leading that pack with eight birdies and Bean recording the lone eagle of the group.
Host Oglethorpe was the team champion of the event, shooting a 17-under, 835, while Christopher Newport's Patrick O'Rourke won the individual title with his 9-under, 204.
