School Record Shattered in Golf's First Tournament

BRUNSWICK, Ga. - Covenant Men's Golf started its 2025-26 campaign at the Coastal Georgia Classic, held at Sanctuary Cove Golf Club, finishing tied eighth out of 15 schools with a score of 905 (+41) across 54 holes.

In round one, Covenant came out, shooting 288 (E) to break the school record for lowest team score by one stroke, which it shot last year at the Cleveland State Invitational. In rounds two and three, the Scots shot 305 (+17) and 312 (+24).

INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCES:

Drew Silman, last year's CCS Championship winner, led the Scots with a tied-fourth place finish at (-4). During the second round of the tournament, Slilman shot 67 (-5) to tie his own school record for lowest individual round. He shot 73 (+1) and 72 (E) in his other two rounds to begin his junior season.

In his first collegiate tournament, Cole Godwin placed tied-49th with a score of (+14) and was the second-best finisher on the leaderboard for the Scots. His best round came in his first one, shooting even-par 72. He followed those rounds up with scores of 80 (+8) and 78 (+6).

Wiley Hickerson finished tied-55th at (+16), but it was his first round that made noise across campus. The senior shot 68 (-4) for his lowest career round, one off the individual school record and a big reason why Covenant broke the school record for lowest team round. In rounds two and three, Hickerson was not able to keep the momentum running, posting 81 (+9) and 83 (+11) to close out the tournament.

Carson Pruitt was another freshman in the lineup for Eddie Jackson's group as he finished tied-62nd with a score of (+18). His best round was also in round one, shooting 75 (+3) before ending the tournament with rounds of 80 (+8) and 79 (+7).

Ayden Cordell was Covenant's final man in the lineup, shooting rounds of 79 (+7), 78 (+6) and 84 (+12) to total (+25) in his first tournament of his sophomore campaign after a successful year one in the blue and white.

Competing as an individual, freshman Will Sporalsky had a good showing, placing tied-40th, shooting three rounds in the 70s for a 54-hole score of (+11). His best round was 73 (+1) in round one while in his other two rounds he shot 78 and 76.

UP NEXT: Covenant travels to Anderson, South Carolina for the Bob Jones Bruins Classic which is scheduled for Sep. 22-23 at Cobb's Glen Country Club.
