Covenant Overpowered at No. 5 Emory

ATLANTA, Ga. – Covenant made the trip to Atlanta for a challenging non-conference clash against the No. 5-ranked Emory Eagles. The Scots struggled to contain Emory's high-powered attack, ultimately falling by a score of 7-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Covenant goalkeeper Bronwyn Kickasola was tested early and often as she made five saves in the first eight minutes as the Scots were able to hang around early.
  • Emory scored its first goal of the night at the 11-minute mark as Mikayla Camp got the offense going for the Eagles.
  • Camp scored again as she put the ball in the bottom right corner of the net to put Emory up 2-0.
  • In the 33rd minute, Sophia Cho netted the Eagles' third goal of the night off of a corner kick from Laina Denys. Emory scored again one minute later to go up 4-0.
  • In the 40th minute, Abby Eastes fired a shot on goal for the Scots, but it was turned away, and Covenant remained behind.
  • Emory continued their first-half success as Zia Tomlin put them up 5-0 just minutes before the break.
  • At halftime, Emory had outshot Covenant 24-2.
  • Seconds into the second half, Tomlin scored her second goal of the game to put the Eagles up by six.
  • In the 63rd minute, Nikki Grosso became the third Eagle to score multiple goals in the game as she extended Emory's lead.
  • There was no more scoring in the last twenty-five minutes of the game as Emory comfortably ran out the clock on a 7-0 victory.

GAME NOTES:

  • Covenant moves to 0-8 all-time against Emory.
  • Despite only playing the first half, Kickasola was just one save short of her career high with eleven.
  • Emory outshot Covenant 36-2.
  • The Scots were whistled for seven fouls while the Eagles were called for one.
  • Emory had five corner kick attempts while Covenant had none.
