OCEAN ISLE BEACH, N.C. -- Led by
Kenny Duffin's third-place finish, the Covenant golf team concluded its spring-opening tournament on Tuesday by finishing third in the Pfeiffer Invitational at the Lion's Paw course.
Covenant posted a 323 in the final round. Coupled with a 315 in the first round, the Scots' 638 was good for third in the nine-team field that featured three USA South foes (Maryville, Southern Virginia, Pfeiffer). A squad from Belmont Abbey took the team title with a 611 (311-300).
Duffin finished third overall after posting a 76 on Tuesday. The sophomore finished with a 36-hole score of 154 (78-76) and carded four birdies between the two rounds. Belmont Abbey's Brendan Kelly was the co-clubhouse leader after round one and fired a second-round 75 to win medalist honors at 149 (74-75).
Will DeMersseman shot an 81 on Tuesday to end the tournament with a 161 (80-81), while
Isaac Duncan had an 82 to finish with a 162 (80-82).
Crawford Collett and
Bo Luff each had a pair of birdies in Tuesday's round as Luff finished the tournament with a 164 (77-87) and Collett at 173 (89-84).
