Box Score SWANNANOA, N.C. -- The Covenant women's soccer team blasted Warren Wilson on the road with their 5-0 victory Saturday evening.
The Scots had two players with multiple goals. Leah Marr and Kailey Burrell both tallied two scores a piece, while freshman Emma Riggs posted her first career goal to give Covenant the five-goal shutout.
Covenant did not take long to strike first, as their first goal came in the eighth minute from Burrell. Not long after, Marr scored her first goal of the day in the 22nd minute.
Entering the second period up 2-0, the Scots picked up right where they left off, with another Burrell goal in the 59th minute to give them the 3-0 lead over the Owls. Soon after, Marr made it 4-0 in the 61st minute with her goal assisted by Burrell.
Riggs would then score the Scots' fifth and final goal, assisted by Hannah Rodehaver, with six seconds left in regulation.
Covenant recorded a whopping 31 total shots for the match, 16 of which were on goal. Marr and Burrell both had seven, while Riggs had five. Tyneisha Herring had four shots, and Rodehaver, Mary Streets, Heidi Hall, and Julie Meritt all added two shots apiece.
The Scots' defense only allowed Warren Wilson to get off five total shots. Covenant goalie Lucy Sandhoff played the entirety of the match and recorded one save on the one shot on goal posted by the Owls.
Carrigan Causby got the start in the goal for the home team and recorded 11 saves. Kai Robinson led the Owls with three shots.
The win makes the Scots 1-1, while Warren Wilson falls to 0-3.
