LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The Covenant volleyball team dropped two matches on Saturday to wrap up the weekend in Lexington, Kentucky. Facing the tournament hosts, Transylvania, in Saturday's first match, the Lady Scots fell 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-21). In the day's second match, Bethany (W.V.) bested the Lady Scots 3-0 (27-25, 25-19, 25-14).
Covenant goes to 6-3 on the season.
Chelsea VanDyk had 11 kills in the first match as Covenant also got 12 assists from Stephanie Kirkpatrick and 16 digs from Chloe Carlson. Schuyler Moore added 10 assists and three digs.
After dropping the first set, Covenant had a lead late in the second set at 20-19 after a Carlson service ace. After Transylvania took a 21-20 edge, Jessica Seehorn produced a kill that tied the set again at 21. But the hosts would score four of the final five points to take the win.
Against Bethany, VanDyk led the way with eight kills, while Schuyler Moore added six of her own to go along with 10 assists.
Covenant forced the first set to go extra points as the Lady Scots rallied with a kills by Cora Schroeder and a Bethany error to knot the score at 24 apiece. Hannah Rogers made it 25 all with a kill of her own before Bethany scored the final two points of the set to take a 1-0 match lead. After falling in the second set, Covenant junped out to a 7-2 lead early in the third game before Bethany rallied for the victory.
Covenant will return home on Tuesday to face non-conference regional rival Sewanee at 7 p.m. inside Barnes Physical Education Center.
