LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant volleyball team extended its home winning streak to seven, dating back to last season, as they knocked off both Emory & Henry and Agnes Scott by 3-0 scores on Saturday inside Barnes PE Center.
The two victories moves Covenant to 9-3 overall on the season. Covenant last lost at home on October 15, 2013 against Maryville.
In the day's first match, Covenant dispatched the visiting Wasps with set scores of 25-17, 25-21, 25-23. Ginny Moore had 12 kills and 11 digs in the victory, while Chelsea VanDyk had 10 kills. Jessica Seehorn tallied 21 assists and seven digs with Stephanie Kirkpatrick adding 15 assists and two kills. Chloe Carlson led the team with 16 digs.
Covenant had 16 kills and a hitting percentage of .343 in the first set, but Emory & Henry hung with the Lady Scots as the set saw 12 ties and nine lead changes. Trailing 16-15, Hannah Rogers' kill knotted the score and Covenant would score nine of the final 10 points to win the set. Christina Argaez had four service aces during that stretch while Moore had three kills.
Covenant held the lead for most of the second set, but never by more than six points. Covenant pulled ahead 23-17 on a Emory & Henry error and then withstood a Wasps rally that cut the Lady Scots' lead to 23-20.
In the third set, Covenant took a 22-18 lead after a Wasps error. The visitors came back to tie the game at 23, but Moore had the answer once again as she produced a kill and a serve ace giving Covenant the match.
Tristen Pennington led the Wasps with 11 kills and 20 digs. Maleah Neely had 14 digs and 21 assists for Emory & Henry (5-4).
The final match of the day featured two teams that used to be conference rivals as Covenant played Agnes Scott. Covenant had 47 kills and a hitting percentage of .284 for the match as they won in three sets by scores of 25-15, 25-21, 25-15.
Moore led the attack again with 12 kills to go with six digs. Rogers recorded 11 kills and three digs, while VanDyk had nine kills, five service aces and six digs. Kirkpatrick had a match-high 21 assists. Seehorn registered 20 assists, six kills and five digs. Carlson added 14 digs and two service aces.
Covenant used 16 kills in the opening set to build a comfortable lead and cruise to the set win. Seehorn had five kills, five assists and three digs to lead the Lady Scots to a 1-0 match advantage.
Covenant's hitting percentage was even better in the second set as they accumulated 17 kills, with just two errors, for a .385 attacking clip. Agnes Scott competed with Covenant as the set had eight ties and five lead changes. Covenant rallied from a 16-13 deficit with a 7-1 run to go ahead 20-17. A Rogers kill ended the set with Covenant holding a 25-21 edge.
The Lady Scots never trailed in the third set as they took an early 4-0 lead with three straight serve aces from Moore. Consecutive kills from VanDyk and a kill from Moore capped the match.
Agnes Scott (3-7) was led by Lauren Aikens' nine kills and two total blocks. Shakirah Dodson had 17 assists to lead the Scotties.
Covenant will host Trevecca Nazarene in a non-conference tilt on Tuesday at 7 p.m. inside Barnes Physical Education Center.
