ATLANTA, Ga. -- Against a nationally-ranked opponent, the Covenant women's soccer team hung with Emory for a half, but eventually fell 2-0 Tuesday night in Atlanta, Ga.
With the loss, the Lady Scots fall to 6-7-1, while the fifth-ranked Eagles are now 7-0-3 on the year.
Despite being outshot 25-1, Covenant keeper Lucy Johnson was able to keep Emory's attack off the board in the first half. Johnson made nine saves in the first 45 minutes as the teams went into the break deadlocked at zero. That all changed in the 52nd minute, when Emory's Karina Rodriguez broke through to make it 1-0 on the Eagles' 28th shot of the night. They would make it 2-0 15 minutes later on Kaitlyn Dorka's goal in the 68th minute of the match.
Johnson made 14 saves on the night, which established a new career-high for her. The 16 shots on goal by Emory tied a season-high by Covenant opponents.
Covenant will try to bounce back from the setback when they travel to Fayetville, N.C. to take on conference opponent Methodist this Friday at 4:30 p.m.
