MARYVILLE, Tenn. -- The Covenant volleyball team extended its winning streak to nine with a pair of sweeps over USA South opponents on Saturday afternoon in Maryville. The Lady Scots knocked off Greensboro in three sets by scores of 25-12, 25-14, 25-19 before defeating Mary Baldwin 25-14, 25-11, 25-16.
The victories pushes Covenant's win streak to nine, matching the longest in program history set in 2012. Covenant is 18-6 overall and 7-1 in the USA South.
Ginny Moore totaled 27 kills in the two matches to lead the Lady Scots. She had 12 kills and six digs in the first match against Greensboro, while Schuyler Moore had 14 assists, seven kills, six aces and five digs. Stephanie Kirkpatrick had a match-high 15 assists and Chloe Carlson tallied 16 digs. Hannah Rogers chipped in six kills.
Covenant recorded 14 kills as a team in the first set against Greensboro and broke a 2-2 tie with a 12-2 scoring run to go ahead 14-4. Rogers had a pair of kills during the stretch and the Lady Scots cruised to the set win.
It was more of the same in the second set as Covenant took a big lead early on at 15-5. The Lady Scots tallied 13 kills in the second game and the set ended on a kill from Pretoria den Boer. The third set was tighter, but Covenant was able to pull away midwy through. Schuyler Moore registered back-to-back kills giving Covenant a 21-14 edge and the match ended on a Greensboro attack error.
Greensboro (13-9, 5-5 USA South) got five kills from Shayla Moss and 11 digs from Breana Baker.
In the second match, Covenant had little difficulty in defeating a winless Mary Baldwin squad. Ginny Moore had 15 kills and five digs with Schuyler Moore and Cora Schroeder tallying five kills apiece. Schuyler Moore also added 16 assists and eight digs in the win. Jessica Seehorn recorded 14 assists and Carlson had 11 digs.
Covenant had a season-high hitting percentage of .398 with 44 kills and only nine attack errors.
The Lady Scots built double-digit leads in each of the first two sets as they breezed to a 2-0 match lead. In a tighter third set, Covenant scored 10 of the final 13 points of the set to secure the sweep.
Covenant will look to extend its win streak on Tuesday when they travel back to Maryville to take on the Scots. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
