Covenant Players of the Week Awards go to Krafft and Smith

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN-- A pair of pitchers are being honored as Covenant Players of the Week this week.  Softball player Chelsea Krafft and baseball player Tyler Smith have been recognized for their play during the week of March 5- 10.

Krafft, a senior from Dalton, Ga., wins the award for the first time this season. The right-handed pitcher was instrumental in the softball team's sweep of Birmingham-Southern on Saturday afternoon. Krafft picked up her second win of the year in game one when she pitched a complete-game. Krafft allowed 10 hits in the contest, but limited the Lady Panthers to a single run while striking out four. In the second game, Krafft was credited with a save after throwing the final 1.1 innings and giving up one hit. For the season, Krafft is 2-2 with an earned run average of 2.43 in 29.2 innings pitched.

A senior from Ooltewah, Tenn., Smith is also a first-time winner of the award this season. Smith pitched a complete-game (seven innings) to help the Scots baseball team to a 5-3 win over Ave Maria University. The right-hander allowed six hits and three runs, all earned, while punching out seven batters and walking none. Smith is now 2-1 on the year with an ERA at 1.59 as he has allowed only four earned runs in 22.2 innings.
