LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Goals from Mary Buys and Katelyn Newsome gave the Covenant women's team more than enough scoring as they claimed a 2-0 win over Tennessee Temple on Saturday afternoon for Homecoming.

What made the win even more special for the Lady Scots was that it gave head coach Mark Duble his 200th career win at the school. Duble, in his 19th season at the helm, is the only coach in program history. He has led his teams to 16 winning seasons and multiple conference championships with an NAIA national tournament appearance.

Covenant (9-2-1) struck first in the 21st minute of play when Buys headed in a Mary Claire Roberson corner kick to make it 1-0 Lady Scots. The score is Buys' second of the season.

In the second half, the Lady Scots added to their lead when Newsome found the back of the net. Mo Cross played the ball into the box and to Newsome who got her shot past Tennessee Temple keeper Donnar Bolden to make it 2-0.

Covenant outshot the Crusaders 21-1, with an 8-1 advantage in shots on goal. The Lady Scots had a 10-1 edge in corner kicks as well.

After the match ended, there was a brief ceremony for coach Duble at midfield as current and former players surrounded Duble and congratulated him on the milestone victory. Duble's overall record stands at 200-115-24.

The Lady Scots are back in action on Wednesday, October 10 when they host Spelman College at Scotland Yard. Match time is set for 5:30 p.m.
