ATLANTA -- Led by three players in double figures, the Emory University Eagles protected their home court and defeated Covenant 79-53 on Saturday night in Atlanta. The Eagles, currently ranked at No. 10 in the NCAA Division III Top 25, remain undefeated on the season at 7-0. Covenant falls to 4-2 for the year.

Freshman Colton McGriff led Covenant in scoring with 15 points while also grabbing six rebounds in the losing effort. Callum Sears, the Scots' leading scorer on the year coming into the game, was held to only five points on 2-for-8 shooting.

Covenant got out to a rough start as Emory took a quick 9-2 lead after a Michael Friedberg basket at the 18:24 mark of the first half. The Scots had a tough time with the Eagles' defensive pressure and Emory extended their lead throughout the rest of the half. A 3-pointer by Jake Davis near the end of the half made it 57-28 going into halftime.

Emory cooled off in the second half, but the lead they built was too much for Covenant to overcome. The Eagles took their largest lead of the game at 37 points early in the second half on a 3-pointer from Austin Claunch.

Davis led the Eagles in scoring with 19 points on 9-for-15 shooting. Alex Gulotta added 16 points while Claunch chipped in 10 points and seven assists. Emory connected on 12 3-pointers and shot 41 percent (30-73) for the game.

To go along with McGriff's 15 points, junior Jon DeVries had six points and also collected six rebounds. Joey Danek led the Scots in rebounds with seven.

Covenant will return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 7 with a road game at Oglethorpe University. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. in Atlanta.
