ROME, Ga. -- The Lady Scots volleyball team's eight-match winning streak came to an end Tuesday night as Covenant lost a five-game thriller to Berry College (19-25, 25-19, 25-21, 23-25, 13-15). Over the last two weeks, Covenant went 5-0 in conference play, dropping a total of only two games since the first week of October. The Lady Scots are now 19-7 overall while they remain 8-1 in the Great South. Berry improves to 13-12 overall.
After losing the first game 25-19, Covenant used a 10 point run midway through the second to gain a 17-10 advantage. The Lady Scots would go on to win the second game 25-19 to tie the match then win the third 25-21 to take the lead.
In the fourth, Berry rattled off five straight points of their own late in the game to bring the match back to a tie at two games apiece. Berry then edged the Lady Scots in the fifth game, managing five of the final seven points in the match to claim a 15-13 fifth set victory.
Throughout the night, Erica Adams (18 kills) and Jessie Jakes (12 kills) were a consistent source of offensive production. Covenant's defense was great too, and despite the loss, the Lady Scots came up with 10 blocks to Berry's two. Setter Kristin Dahlstrand earned 37 assists, though Berry's Stephanie Quinn had 54. Estes Carlson (38 digs) and Dahlstrand (21) were the team leaders on defense.
Berry's offense was fueled by Claire Scott who earned 17 kills.
The Lady Scots attacked at a .156 rate, while Berry hit .159 for the match.
The Lady Scots play Randolph and Emory & Henry Colleges on Saturday October 29th. Events will take place on the campus of Maryville College in Maryville, Tennessee.
