Women's Soccer Falls to Berry in Home Opener

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. -- Covenant women's soccer fell in their home opener, 4-1, to a strong Berry squad on Tuesday evening at Scotland Yard.

The lone goal for the Scots (0-3-0) was the first career goal for sophomore Aggie Gordon, who fired one from another area code on the right side into the back of the net, barely beating the outstretched hand of Vikings (2-0-0) keeper Riley Wilson.

The first half was competitive one for Covenant, who, after letting up an 11th minute goal from Gianna Maimone, got some help with three saves from Bronwyn Kickasola, and put some pressure on the Berry defense with shots by Blythe Jelley and Emma Anderson late in the half. The half ended 1-0 in favor of Berry.

However, the Vikings offense got going early in the second half, getting a pair of goals in a span of five minutes, one from Giselle Aitken and one from Sierra Christensen, to make it 3-0. They tacked on a fourth in the 81st minute from Emily Wagoner to put the match out of reach.

Aimee Babb and Lila Wiley attempted to get something going offensively in that stretch, as Babb was able to get two shots on net, but could not sneak one through. Finally, in the 84th minute, Gordon turned suddenly and whistled one prefectly over everyone and into the net to pay off all the offensive effort.

That would be all Covenant would manage, however, freshman keeper Maggie Jamison made her collegiate debut and picked up her first save in the 89th minute.

The Vikings' starting keeper, Kate Hill, made two saved in her 80:50 of play, while Kickasola saved five shots for the Scots.
