LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Three first-half goals proved to be too much of a deficit for Covenant women's soccer on Saturday morning, as they fell 3-1 on the road at Spalding.
Freshman
AT Simon did record her first collegiate goal in the 75th minute, a momentous occasion, but the Scots (0-2-0) could not make any more late rallies to go for the draw.Â
After a quiet first 15 minutes, Spalding (2-0-0) got on the board with a Madison Dziedzic goal in the 16th minute.
Sydney Morris attempted to answer in the 24th minute, but Kinsley Bechtold held serve in net.
The Eagles posted two more goals in the 26h and 28th minutes, respectively, to go up 3-0 in a hurry, prompting
Hayden Shababy to fire a shot in the 42nd minute to get Covenant on the board just before half, but it went wide right.
The early second half was similarly quiet, but the silence was eventually broken by Simon, of Charlotte, N.C., who finally punched one home to cut it to 3-1, but that would be all they would be able to get in the net the rest of the way, although
AnnaLi Weekley and
Abi Markey fired late shots on net, but could not get them through.
Maddie Campbell and Claira Andrews were the second-half goal scorers for the Eagles, while Bechtold and Lily Brennen combined for four saves.
