WILMORE, Ky. -- Covenant women's soccer held on after a late push by Asbury to upend the Eagles, 3-2, in Wilmore on Wednesday evening.
AT Simon,
Clara Norris, and
Lila Wiley all scored goals for the Scots (3-3-2, 2-0-1 CCS), while
Oli Conrad added the lone assist of the evening. The goal for Norris was the first of her career, while Simon and Wiley each scored their fourth tallies of the season. Conrad's assist was her second in 2026.
As they have done the last couple of weeks, Covenant started the match on a mission offensively, firing six shots in the first 17:46 of the match, one of which was on net and another that hit the left post. Their efforts paid off in the 30th minute, as the Scots drew a foul inside the box, and Simon converted the penalty kick to go up 1-0.
Not even seven minutes later, they were at it again, as Conrad found Norris for the Scots' second goal of the match and a 2-0 lead. The defense stymied Asbury (5-3-1, 1-1-0 CCS) the rest of the half, holding the Eagles to just one lone shot in the half.
In the second half, Asbury found their groove offensively, as they fired three shots in the first 17:19, but keeper
Bronwyn Kickasola and the rest of the Scots held them out of the net. Then, in the 76th minute, the Eagles got one to go, as Bria Stiff scored on an assist from Maggie Perry to close it to a 2-1 game.
However, 10:14 later, Wiley got her chance and converted, putting Covenant in front 3-1 with just 4:15 to play. Asbury did not go down easily, though, as they found a way to score not two minutes later to make it 3-2 off the foot of Molly Spalding. That would be all for the Eagles, as the defense allowed no chances in the final 1:16.
Gretchen Caswell, Simon and
Blythe Jelley played all 90 minutes, while Kickasola made two saves during the match.
