LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. -- Covenant women's soccer exploded for four goals to get their first CCS win of the season with a 4-1 showing on homecoming Saturday at Scotland Yard.
Lila Wiley led the way with a brace and an assist, while
AT Simon and
Oli Conrad added goals as well.
Aggie Gordon and
Georgie Strawbridge combined for the other three assists on the day as the Scots (2-3-2, 1-0-1 CCS) fired 27 shots, 13 of which were on frame.
The onslaught began just 6:15 in, as Wiley took a cross from Gordon and chipped it perfectly into the net for an early 1-0 lead.Â
Later, in the 20th minute, Wiley found a lane again, this time taking a pass from Strawbridge and navigating her way to another goal and a 2-0 Scots lead.Â
Just 1:10 later, a corner kick chance from Strawbridge found Simon, who headed it home for a commanding 3-0 advantage not even halfway through the first half.
The Hawks' (2-6-0, 0-1-0 CCS) defense held from there, as keeper Libby Williams stopped
Maren Halvorson and Conrad's chances on net to end the half.
Covenant found one more rally though, as Conrad started the second half and placed a ball around the diving Williams and into the right side of the goal for a 4-0 lead just eight minutes into the half.
Gordon and Wiley attempted to add to that lead, but both were denied by Williams. Huntingdon then found some life, scoring in the 65th minute off the foot of Shaylinn McFarland, assisted by Keabetsoe Walker.
From that point on, the defense did their job, as keeper
Bronwyn Kickasola only had to make one save in the final stretch, while
Sydney Morris and Strawbridge posted a few more shots for good measure.
In total, Williams made nin saves, while Kickasola posted a five-save shutout.
