ATLANTA, Ga. -- Carter Weekley's penalty kick goal in the 54th minute proved to be the difference as men's soccer upended Oglethorpe, 1-0, in Atlanta on Thursday evening.

The goal was the first of Weekley's career, as the Scots (2-5-0) got four saves from sophomore keeper J.T. Tolson for his first career shutout effort. Eli Daniel, Cooper Rumley, and Noah Jones fortified the back line defensively, with each playing all 90 minutes.

In the first half, Tolson was active early, stopping an eighth minute shot by the Stormy Petrels (4-2-2), which, along with Brian Burke's 34th minute shot, were the only shots fired by either team in the first half, as the defenses reigned.

Then the Scots made their push.

Weekley generated a shot just 1:14 into the half, missing the mark, but another offensive surge created a corner kick chance, where Oglethorpe committed a foul inside the box after a Jackson Bostrom shot on frame. That gave Weekley his chance, and he delivered, punching the penalty kick home for the 1-0 advantage.

Then it was up to the defense.

Tolson added another save to his ledger in the 67th minute, and then Covenant was able to hold the ball inside the Stormy Petrels' zone, gaining a pair of shots on net by Lyndon Tucker and Jackson Hinson. 

The final chance for Oglethorpe came in the 70th and 72nd minutes, as they got away two attempts toward the goal, but Tolson again rose to the occasion, denying both to preserve his shutout.

Asa Mills added one final shot on net for the Scots for good measure, as Covenant held strong to keep their 1-0 lead the rest of the match.

Sebastian Lewis made five saves in net for the Stormy Petrels, while Nathan Leveque had two shots on net.
