LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. -- Covenant men's soccer was felled, 4-1, by three second-half goals by the Brevard Tornados on Tuesday evening at Scotland Yard.
The lone goal for the Scots (1-6-0) came on a penalty kick, as
Isaiah Harper beat Tornados (5-1-0) keeper Soren Deweer for his first goal of the season.Â
In the first half, the Scots were the first to get a look, as
Jackson Hinson fired off a shot, but it was saved by Deweer to keep it scoreless.
Then Brevard got their first chance, but
Sam Wilkey, making his first start as a Scot, denied that opportunity. However, a second chance paid off for the Tornados as Guilherme Barcelos scored to make it 1-0 in the 15th minute.
The Scots patiently waited for their chance, and capitalized on the one they received, as a run forced a foul inside the box, which Harper converted to tie it at one apiece. That score would hold until halftime, as Wilkey saved a pair of shots to end the half.
In the second half, though, Brevard took over, as Barcelos scored again in the 48th minute and once more in the 72nd minute for a hat trick, followed up by a 76th minute goal by German Garcia to balloon the advantage to 4-1 with just under 14 minutes to play.
Covenant managed few chances in the second half, as
Jackson Bostrom,
Ian Adams,
Carter Weekley, and
Pablo Bedoya could not find the frame.
Garcia assisted on two of Brevard's goals as well, while Roi Abutbul and Enrique Sosa had the other assists for the Tornados. Deweer made one save during the evening, while Wilkey had four for the Scots.
