LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. -- Covenant women's soccer held on for a 2-2 draw with 2025 CCS semifinalist Maryville on Wednesday evening at Scotland Yard.
Lila Wiley notched her first score of the season to open the scoring for Covenant (1-3-1), with reigning CCS Rookie of the Week OIi Conrad tacking on the second in the 45th minute.
Georgie Strawbridge,
Abbey Heupel, and
AT Simon recorded assists, while
Bronwyn Kickasola saved six shots.
In a lively match, Covenant was the first to score, as Wiley took a perfect through ball from Strawbridge and put it away for a 1-0 lead just 5:24 in.
Maryville (2-1-3) looked to answer in the 13th minute, but
Aggie Gordon put herself in the perfect position to block it and prevent the tie. Both teams traded shots on net for the next 17:39, with Kickasola making two saves, but a handball inside the box allowed Maryville's Ellie Schuld to score the equalizer in the 31st minute.
However, with just 21 seconds left in the half, Simon punched a ball toward midfield, where a waiting Heupel headed it downfield to Conrad in full stride, who eluded keeper Trinity Atkinson and scored her second goal of the season to go back up 2-1 at halftime.
Maryville attempted to tie it up again early in the second half, but Kickasola was up for the challenge, making a pair of saves in the 53rd and 57th minutes. Covenant then gained a major chance in the 71st minute, as an intial shot from Conrad was saved, but a rebound was left to the open right side, but Heupel's shot hit the post.
Maryville's offense continued the pressure late, as Kickasola saved another attempt in the 77th minute and the team blocked an initial look in the 84th minute, but the rebound found the foot of Katie Cotten, who pushed it to the top right corner to tie things up again.
Neither team was able to generate any further good chances the rest of the way, with
Tess Duble's late desparation shot unable to sneak through.
Atkinson recorded four saves for Maryville, with Lexi Maciejewski landing the lone assist.
