LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. -- Covenant men's soccer dropped their matchup with No. 14 Lynchburg, 5-0, on Saturday afternoon at Scotland Yard.
Goalkeeper
J.T. Tolson led the way defensively again for the Scots (0-4) with a career-best seven saves, while
Jackson Hinson led all non-keepers in minutes with 75.
The scoring began in the 10th minute, as Tolson's initial save 28 seconds prior did not lead to a clear, as Saul Lopez Coreas scored to put the Hornets (4-1) up 1-0. Tolson would add another save in the 19th minute, but Carlos Andres Romero was able to push one into the back of the net in the 37th minute to make it 2-0.
The defense held from there to end the first half, but just 1:01 into the second half, Jefferson Lopez Coreas scored to put the Scots down 3-0.
Carter Weekley attempted to answer just 1:21 later, but his shot missed high.
In the 65th minute, the Scots generated their best chance of the day, getting three shots in a row, one from
Brian Burke, one from
Cooper O'Connor, and one from
Collin Kitchin, but all missed the mark.
Tolson picked up more saves in the 57th, 59th, and 68th minutes, but the Hornets' Chris Wiley scored on a penalty kick at the 75 minute mark to make it 4-0. The scoring ended in the 89th minute with Fischer Daniel's goal.
Sean DeLorenzo and Hector Rodriquez landed assists for Lynchburg, while keepers Vikram Couto and Stefan Kapitanov posted a combined shutout.
