Volleyball Records Best Hitting Percentage Since 2022 in Sweep

BANGOR, Maine -- Covenant volleyball started their Maine road trip with an emphatic sweep of Husson, 3-0, hitting .456 as a team, the best match mark for the Scots since 2022.

Cali Sandhoff paced the Scots (4-1) in kills with nine (hitting .571) and assists with 15, while Avery Maiden punched six kills on a .400 hitting percentage and Gabby Sumrall (.714) and Scarlett Martz (.667) had five apiece.

Defensively, Sarah Jennings had nine digs, while Sumrall blocked three attacks, as the team held Husson to a -.121 hitting percentage.

Up 6-5 in the first set and needing to pull away, Covenant did just that, scoring six straight and eight of the next nine to go up 14-6. Sandhoff recorded three kills in that time. Later, a kill by Sandhoff and back-to-back aces from Hailey Landrum punctuated a dominant 25-10 set one victory.

The onslaught continued in the second set, as Jennings rattled off four aces in a 10-0 run, and then Maiden added two kills in another five-point rally to go up 15-1. The Scots put away the second set with a pair of kills from Sumrall, one from Aubrianna Gerdes, and a service error to go up 2-0.

The Eagles (0-2) tried to fight back in the third set, closing the early deficit to 7-5 with back-to-back points.

However, Covenant was not to be denied, as they delivered a 14-0 run, a knockout punch that included three kills from Delaney Stirm and three aces from Chloe Finn. Sparrow Sethman and Carmen Harvey concluded matters with a kill and an ace, respectively, to close the match.

Peyton Hooker led Husson with three kills, while Lily Andreasen paced the team with seven digs.
