SALEM, Va. -- Jackson Bostrom tallied his first goal of 2026 in the fifth minute, but it was not enough to hold off Roanoke, as the Scots dropped their season opener 2-1 on the road in Salem on Tuesday evening.

The Scots (0-1-0) took seven shots, four on net, while allowing 16 shots and five on frame from the Maroons (1-0-0). Bostrom, Henry Parker, and Ian Adams tallied the shots on frame for Covenant, while keeper J.T. Gard tallied three saves. Sean Freace and Daniel Wallis played all 90 minutes on the back line.

The Covenant attack made an impact early in the match, as Adams fired a shot on goal at the 1:32 mark, and then a subsequent run gave Bostrom (5') an opportunity, which he cashed in on an assist from Parker to put the Scots up 1-0.

The two teams tallied two shots each in the following 16:01, but Roanoke was able to tie the score on a Grey Morris goal in the 21st minute, and then 4:22 later, Pacific Kabungulu put one in the net to give the Maroons a 2-1 advantage.

The defenses kept the match scoreless the remainder of the half, with Gard having to make one save. 

Adams attempted to re-knot the score with his shot 1:43 into the second half, but Denzel Marufu denied it, and the Roanoke defense prevented any further shots on net the rest of the half.

Marufu made two saves for the Maroons, while William Gardiner played all 90 minutes defensively.
