ATLANTA, Ga. -- Covenant volleyball was chosen second in the CCS preseason poll with 32 points and two first-place votes, announced the conference on Monday.
The voting was conducted by the seven head coaches within CCS volleyball.
Following a 20-14 overall record and 13-3 CCS record last season, the Scots look to make it back atop the CCS for the fourth time.
Head coach
Stephanie Wharton, in her fifth season, returns to lead the charge, and also brings back assistants
Jackson Lenoir, Stephanie Zumbach, and
Katey Dukes.
On the roster, six seniors return, two of whom,
Cali Sandhoff (First Team) and
Kennedy Barber (Second Team) were All-CCS honorees last season. Fellow seniors
AnaClara Maik, former All-CCS honoree
Sarah Jennings,
Delaney Stirm, and
Scarlett Martz look to fortify the lineup.
The returning junior class contains key contributors
Gabby Sumrall,
Kayley Shanfelt, and
Cadie Weldon, along with transfer
Avery Maiden, who attempts to make an impact in year one in Scots blue.
Rounding out the returners are sophomores
Henley Gentry,
Sparrow Sethman,
Aubrianna Gerdes,
Lauren Niemeyer, and
Carmen Harvey, who will look to add to their year of experience.
Six freshmen complete the roster:
Chloe Finn,
Hailey Landrum,
Addison Hill,
Evy Hammer,
Sophie Sherer, and
Marj Stark. All of them prepare to make themselves invaluable in year one.
The regular season begins tomorrow with a matchup against Sewanee at 7 p.m., and then a three-match Coca-Cola Invitational weekend slate follows. CCS play starts on September 18 against Belhaven and Huntingdon, and concludes at Belhaven on October 31. The regular season winds down on November 7 against Maryville.
The CCS Tournament is scheduled for November 12-14 and will be hosted by the regular season conference champion.
Asbury was selected as the preseason favorites with 35 points and five first-place votes.
