LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. -- Covenant baseball hit three homers and collected 16 total hits to push the lead big enough to hold on for an 11-10 win over Berry at the Covenant Baseball Field on Tuesday afternoon.
Daniel Bell had a banner 4-for-5 day at the plate with a homer and four RBIs, while
Daniel Counts added three hits and
Roby McClarnon and
Cole Akins added a pair of hits each.
Aidan Suitor (1-1) earned his first collegiate win in relief.
Bell started the offensive fire with his leadoff homer in the first, and then Counts and Akins followed with RBI knocks to make it 3-0 after one.
Bell added another RBI to his ledger in the second with a single to right, but the Vikings (15-14) responded in the top of the third with five runs to take their first lead, 5-4.
Counts did not like being behind on the scoreboard, so he responded by hammering a line shot homer to left center in the bottom of the third to tie it, and the rest of the team followed in the fourth with a five spot of their own.
Bell again ignited the rally with a two-RBI single, and McClarnon, Counts, and Akins followed with RBI base hits to extend it to 10-5.
Both teams would score in the fifth as well, with the Scots' (12-20) run coming on an
Ezra Finton solo shot to left center. Covenant was held scoreless the remainder of the game, but the bullpen did its job, holding on and getting key outs when needed.
Aeden Beuning and
Brady Daniell (SV, 4) closed the door in the late stages.
Austin Jetmore went 3-for-6 with two RBIs and four runs scored to power the Vikings' offense, while Mason Schoonover (0-1) was handed the loss in relief.
