LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. -- No. 11 Huntingdon proved to be too much for Covenant softball to handle on Saturday, as the Scots fell twice by 9-1 and 9-0 scores on Senior Day at the Covenant Softball Field.
The three seniors,
Cailey Barnett,
Cassidi Phillips, and
Madison Taylor combined for a pair of hits and an RBI on the day, as they tried their best to lift the offense in one last home hurrah.
GAME ONE: Huntingdon 9, Covenant 1 (5 innings)
The Hawks jumped ahead quickly and the Scots could not overcome the early deficit in a 9-1 game one loss.Â
Julie Mavity collected a pair of hits, while
Gracie Lacle,
Madison Taylor, and
Cassidi Phillips added a hit apiece.Â
After falling behind 4-0 in two innings, Phillips singled up the middle with two out to score Lacle in the third to cut it to 4-1.
However, Huntingdon answered with a four spot in the fourth inning to go up eight, and while the Scots did get a baserunner in the bottom of the fifth, the Hawks retired the final two to end things.
Allie Roberts (10-3) earned the win, while
Elizabeth Yother (9-8) was handed the loss. Kate Dinkel went 2-for-2 with three RBIs at the dish for Huntingdon.
GAME TWO: Huntingdon 9, Covenant 0 (5 innings)
Hawks starter Addison Gaines was too much for the Scots' offense in the circle, firing a no-hitter with 11 strikeouts as the Scots fell, 9-0, in game two.Â
Charley Clark was the lone Covenant player to reach base in this one, drawing a walk in the fifth inning to break up a perfect game bid. Clark (3-13) also struck out six in her five innings of work.
The Hawks once again got on the board in the first inning with two runs, and followed with one in the third and six in the fifth to pull away.Â
Gaines (7-2) took it from there, throwing quick innings the rest of the way to close it out.
Taylor Au and Kate Dinkel had a pair of hits and five RBIs between them to lead the Hawks' offense in game two.
