NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- Covenant softball got a gem of an outing from freshman hurler
Elizabeth Yother in game two of the day, helping the Scots split their two games, falling 6-2 in game one and then winning game two, 2-1.
GAME TWO: Covenant 2, Coast Guard 1
A two-run first inning and seven brilliant innings from
Elizabeth Yother propelled the Scots to a 2-1 win in their afternoon game over Coast Guard.
Madison Taylor had a 2-for-3 day at the plate with an RBI, while
Cassidi Phillips added a hit and an RBI of her own as well. Yother (5-4) was excellent in the circle, striking out 10 and allowing just one unearned run.
In the first inning, following
Julie Mavity's leadoff single, Taylor stepped up with one out and brought Mavity in with her double to right center. Phillips followed with an RBI single to center to drive in Taylor.Â
From there, it was Yother's day, as she kept the Bears off the board until the seventh.
In that seventh inning, Yother had to step up, as Coast Guard got the tying run to third and winning run to first with just one out.
She was up to the challenge.
After a three-pitch strikeout, Yother forced a groundout to
Cailey Barnett to cap off her gem.
Hayden Reilly (0-2) was handed the loss for the Bears.
GAME ONE: Lancaster Bible 6, Covenant 3
Four late runs by the Chargers were enough to down the Scots 6-3Â in game two.
Cassidi Phillips had a 2-for-4 day at the plate with an RBI, while
Megan Porras added an RBI of her own as well.
After going down 2-0 in the top of the first, Covenant responded with Phillips' RBI single and Porras' RBI hit-by-pitch to knot things at two.Â
However, a four-run rally between the fourth and fifth innings gave Lancaster Bible a lead they would not relinquish, as the Scots mustered just one run on a passed ball the rest of the way.
Kendall Jackman led the Chargers with a 4-for-4 day in the leadoff spot. Maddison Atkins (2-1) got the win, while
Charley Clark (3-6) was handed the loss.
