LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. -- Covenant baseball got clutch late-game pitching and two-out hitting to take game two and earn a doubleheader split with Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon, losing game one 6-2 before bouncing back to win 7-6 in game two.
GAME TWO: Covenant 7, Ohio Wesleyan 6Â
Roby McClarnon's sacrifice fly and
Brady Daniell's three-inning save gave the Scots a 7-6 win in game two.
Elliott Eastin,
Ezra Finton, and
Ryan MacLellan provided multi-hit efforts for the Scots, with MacLellan hitting his second homer of the season. Daniell fired the final three innings, picking up four strikeouts while nursing a one-run lead his entire outing for his second save.
James Lee (1-1) picked up the win behind six solid innings.
Like in game one, Ohio Wesleyan struck first with two runs in the first inning.Â
The Scots didn't think anything of it.
Daniel Counts and
Daniel Bell recorded hits that forced a pair of Battling Bishop errors, allowing Covenant to knot it up at two. Ohio Wesleyan responded by tacking on two more in the second, but the Scots rose up again, scoring four unanswered runs, capped off by MacLellan's homer, from the second through fourth innings.
The Battling Bishops were able to tie it up in the sixth with a two-run rally, but Eastin's leadoff double, MacLellan's sacrifice bunt, and McClarnon's sacrifice fly put Covenant back up 7-6.
It was Daniell's turn from there, as he dominated in his final three frames to pick up the save.
Alex Snyder went 3-for-4 at the plate to guide the offense for Ohio Wesleyan, while Nate Cory (0-1) got the loss.
GAME ONE: Ohio Wesleyan 6, Covenant 2 (7 Innings)
The Scots struggled to get a rally going as they fell, 6-2 in game one.
Roby McClarnon provided a two-hit game, as did
Daniel Bell, making his 2026 debut, while
Zach Barrett (1-2) allowed just one earned run in five innings of work, but was handed the loss.
The Battling Bishops got on the board first with a run in the first, but
Daniel Counts answered with a bullet two-out RBI single to center to tie it up in the bottom of the inning.
However, Ohio Wesleyan scored five unanswered, and their starter, Parker Tomlin (1-0) did the rest on the mound, scattering five hits over six innings to pick up the win.
Colton Moone and Zane Vitense led the Battling Bishop offense with two hits each.
