LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - Covenant took on Kalamazoo at home in a non-conference test. Despite the quick start in doubles, the Scots were unable to hold on in singles as they eventually fell 5-2.
Ben Onufrock and Caleb Domkowski got the ball rolling at number one doubles as they knocked off Cameron Crosby and Derek Blackwell 6-4. Graham Hayes and Brock Boehling clinched the doubles point as number two as they beat Will Seymour and Sebastian Courtright 6-4.
Just a few seconds later, Covenant earned the doubles sweep as Gavin Patton and Lincoln Shine defeated Tieran Rafferty and Seth Keana 6-3.
Kalamazoo bounced back in singles as Courtright earned an impressive 6-1, 6-1 win over Patton at the number five spot. The Hornets took the lead 2-1 at number six, as Haresh Anand beat Shine 7-5, 6-2. Blackwell put Kalamazoo one win away as he knocked off Hayes at the three spot 6-3, 6-2.
The Scots needed all of the last three singles matches on court to go there way and all three went to a full third set. Unfortunately they were unable to keep up with the Hornets as the match was clinched at number one singles as Crosby beat Onufrock 6-7(4), 6-3, 6-3.
Kalamazoo went up 5-1 as Seymour got by Boehling at the number four spot by a score of 6-1, 5-7, 7-6(7). Domkowski ended the match on a positive note for Covenant as he was able to beat Alex Fleming 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
